From the beginning, Connections’ approach has been to provide a home-like environment for the kids in our care, whether they stay 24 hours or a year.
Originally known as “Teen Connection,” the shelter’s earliest residents were runaway/homeless girls in Comal County. The girls’ shelter opened late 1983 and took in more than 40 girls over its first year.
The old Zoeller Funeral Home, purchased by the non-profit Comal County Juvenile Residential Treatment and Supervision Center, Inc. in 1981, served as the emergency shelter known as “Teen Connection.”
The Comal County Juvenile Residential Supervision and Treatment Center, Inc. changed its name to Connections Individual and Family Services in 2001, and the emergency shelter remained in this location continually through 2024.
Connections’ brand-new main campus in New Braunfels, housing its residential program, counseling center, and prevention and support staff. Construction began in August 2023 and was completed August 2025.
Kids in Connections’ residential program today have a courtyard with a half court, allowing them to safely spend time outside while staying on-site, as well as access to the Mill Street Community Garden.
